In Gary Halbert’s Root Canal copywriting seminar he gives the name and phone number of a Nancy Jones, who he describes as the best media buyer in the country. That number is no longer in service and I’m wondering if you heard of her or have her current whereabouts.

Gary’s Advice to me…
One of the things Gary told me was this: you have to take risks, and not do all the things you’re supposed to do in writing copy. He admitted to me he had more highs and lows financially that some others. But he was happier for having been himself.
So many copywriters are rule-obsessed, but they forget one ingredient that can make an ad strong: YOU. Your real self. Not imitation personal stuff to get people in, but heart-felt feelings and one’s own personal style.
As one of Gary’s contemporary writers and another teacher, Dan Rosenthal, told me, “Sam, the best ads aren’t written, they just flow out.”
Or as one entertainer said, “If you don’t leave a piece of yourself on the stage, what have you given the people? Nothing.”
Thanks for sharing Sam. I totally agree. I think Gary really had balls and that’s why he stood out. I think too many people in this world are too afraid of taking risks and being themselves.
Btw, I think everyone should read Gary’s “The Boron Letters” he wrote to his son while in prison… Fantastic life lessons in those.
Gary was a master at taking risks. You have to embrace failure in order to really fly and reach your heights.
Gary always taught, “It is better to be scared and moving than frightened and frozen.”

Bombing with ads is quite motivating–and it’s more than money. You just have to take a day or two and NOT write until the hurt goes off a little. I always try to spend that pause between efforts getting inspired, somehow, anyhow — and not start attacking the new ad until you’re full of fury again, even if it’s anger.

I go to the site daily and read (and re-read) the articles there.
There are so many that I haven’t even been through them all yet.
Today, I went to the site and I was horrified. It’s Gone.
It looks like whoever was managing the site allowed the domain to expire. I immediately emailed Internic’s expired domains email address to see how we could get the site back up.
Since the site is down though, I no longer have any email info for whomever was maintaining it.
Right now, I am frantically copying articles from Google’s cached pages of the site and placing them in a Word file for my own records.
Hopefully, they will contact me and we can post the site up again. It was truly the most valuable website on the internet.
